| Description |
The Youth Offending Services for the City of Stoke-on-Trent is responsible for leading a range of services to children and young people aged 8 - 17 years who offend or are at risk of offending, parents and victims of youth crime.
Young people are referred through the Police service either on final warning, when arrested, if they continue to commit crimes, or if they are on a Community and Custodial Order and have a Substance Misuse problem.
On initial assessment using ASSET (assessment screening tool), should they score 3 or 4 they are immediately referred to a specialist drugs worker. The Substance Misuse worker deals with young people at a Tier 1 level, if the client has a greater need or urgency than can be dealt with by the worker, then they are referred to a specialist agency - either Druglink for Tier 2/1 targeted work or The Lock (Stoke on Trent Young People's service), should treatment and interventions be required.
The Youth Offending Service runs various rolling programmes with set modules so that a young person can join at any time. The 20 week course covers drugs awareness, victim awareness. There are also similar courses running at Attendance Centres across Stoke-on-Trent. |
