Method of Access: Specific targeting of substance misusers who have received a final warning from the police or drug related co-workers who highlight a young person as having a substance misuse problem.
Description
On referral, the drugs worker will carry out an initial assessment using ASSET and other complimentary tools, taking into consideration peer and family relationships. A decision is made as to whether advice and guidance is required or whether the young person needs to be referred on to another agency such as The Bridge (Adult service so a young person will only be transferred to access treatment facilities) for treatment.

The Drugs worker will carry out basic intervention with one to one sessions and group work. A variety of approaches is used as each young person is different and responds more positively to some approaches than to others. Includes 'brief solution focus therapy and neuro linguistics - as young people often answer a question and don't know why they've given the answer they've given. The approach used is one of harm reduction through education.
