Description
Looked after young people face peer pressure in relation to drugs, this project works pro-actively with them to find out what they want to do with their spare time to help them avoid situations where they could end up taking drugs. Although the project works with young people up to the age of 21 it carries out more focussed work with the 6 -11 age group.

The project helps individuals develop interests in activities such as cookery clubs and poetry. It also runs group work sessions with the local young people. Usually work is carried out with mixed groups of young people but single sex sessions have been run in the past as this is sometimes more appropriate depending on the subject matter. For example in 2004 working with a sexual health worker, the project ran a course for young men on issues of sexual health and related topics.

If a young person has not got an allocated Social Worker then the project manager will assist them in exercising their right to have one.

All Looked After Young People are on a mailing list and are sent Birthday Cards and receive regular letters and visits. The project manager works actively to ensure that all looked after young people know how to contact with him.

Rights and Representations projects have been set up across the country.
