| Description |
Antenatal and post natal (6 months to a year) care for pregnant substance misusers of all ages including young people of 19 and under although this is the minority group - the biggest problem is with the 20 - 25 age group).
The decisive factor for being seen by the service is whether the woman is pregnant and has problem with drugs and or alcohol. Advice is given on harm reduction and how to avoid complications at birth. Statistics have been collated to show that more mums and babies are kept together than before the project started. |

| To engage people early on in antenatal care to increase the chances of a healthy pregnancy and to reduce complications during pregnancy and the birth. |

| The Maternity Liaison Officer works on her own but calls on help from obstetricians, neo-natal team, midwives etc. |
