Description
Base 25 is a one stop shop for young people, it's a statutory service located in a voluntary setting in Wolverhampton City Centre, an area easily accessible for young people. The Young People's drug and alcohol service (Subs) offers tier 3/4 information, appropriate medical care such as detox and prescription programs, auricular acupuncture, needle exchange and support around housing, leisure and other social issues. Young People are offered an appointment within 7 working days of their initial contact with the service or will be seen within 48 hours if considered to be high risk.

Clients have access to a Doctor and Psychiatrist; there is a monthly paediatric health clinic. Community Detox and substitute prescribing is available. The Package of care looks at all the social needs of a young person, including help with further education and leisure options. Motivational intervention and cognitive work is undertaken. Treatment reviews are carried out every 3 months and every young person has a keyworker and enters into a contract when treatment commences.

Needle exchange is a low key/low threshold activity usually for YP engaged in treatment and they are encouraged to access the other services of Base 25.

Protocols are now in place with the YOT, Vice/CAPE and FAME (a service supporting pregnant under 18 drug or alcohol users) and Social services. A joint working package is devised with the adult service for anyone reaching the age of 18 who is believed to require drug services after they reach the age of 19.

Links and relationships with other organisations have previously relied on goodwill and partnerships working but there is a realisation that these need to be formalised.

Subs has an open access policy Monday - Friday from 9am to 5pm. The centre has a set of rules that were negotiated between staff and young people that use the centre, they also have a Young Person's Centredness Charter.
Mission Statement
We consider that it is essential to consider young people’s needs separately from adults; and ensure quality effectiveness in meeting those people. Henceforth, we work within a multi-agency setting, intending to maintain clear communication with, and provide links to a range of organisations relevant to young people we come into contact with.
Objectives
Subs works within the YP Service Framework and the Health Trust guidelines regarding confidentiality, ethics etc
Staff Profile
2 key workers and a team leader based at the centre and 1 worker based within the Youth offending service
Linked Organisations
Connexions and S.O.C.S (young carers) are also in the building along with other activities such as a Girls Only group and Young Fathers Group. The aim is to encourage young people to engage in positive activities. Subs also has links with YOT, Police and Vice Squad, LEA, YMCA, Social Services and the Housing Sector.
