| Description |
A member of the team sees all new trainees within 24hrs of them being received at HMYOI Stoke Heath.
If trainees are identified as from withdrawing off heroin they will be offered detoxification treatment from the healthcare staff.
However, if trainees decline any intervention at this early stage of their sentence then they or any other internal/external agency can refer trainees to the service.
All prisoners referred from initial contact are initially assessed within 5 working days and a Care Plan Assessment and Care Plan are completed 10 days following this assessment.
All Care Plans are S.M.A.R.T and tailor made to the individual clients.
One to one intervention or group work is provided within the Carat’s framework for those assessed as needing these types of intervention.
Once all work has been completed in custody, CARAT workers will devise a release plan identifying those who need post release support. Ideally this is identified at an early stage of their sentence liaising with appropriate external agencies.
Working closely with Healthcare there is now the availability to prescribe naltraxone for previous heroin dependent trainees prior to their release from custody. |
