| Description |
The Drug Education Team trains teachers and Governors in drugs education. They work with key partners, parents, school staff to make them realise they play a very important role in Young People’s lives.
An important part of their work is consulting with Young People to find out what they want and then developing programmes of work around their needs and concerns They are also able to work with school attending young people in non school time and with young people who are classed as vulnerable and/or in need, where they will deliver sessions which complements the work young people are receiving in school as part of PSHE. In this situation they would deliver a minimum of 3 sessions to individuals or small groups (no more than 12 ideally) using a programme devised by the team comprising issues facing young people. The programme is adapted to each individual person/group depending on what they had stated they wanted to learn about drug issues. This information would be gathered at an initial meeting with the young person(s) and their worker before the programme commenced.
To comply with their lone working policy and to ensure the referring agency is fully involved, sessions are always conducted with a worker from the referring organisation. Young People will often approach the Team member after the session to discuss drug related issues which they often haven't been able to bring up with their usual youth worker or teacher so getting someone in from outside can prove invaluable.
Members of the team will attend and speak at partnership events. |

Educational materials produced will be of the highest standard and reflect the views, needs and opinions of young people and those working closely with them. When working with young people and the wider community the team will be professional, supportive, non-judgmental and inclusive, respecting cultural, spiritual and social beliefs whilst challenging any misconceptions. |
