| | Description | The project was set up by two Police Officers in 2000 as a result of talking to local young people about what they wanted. Students enrol on a 12-Week Broadcasting Course (Accredited Via The Open College Network) which includes sessions by drug workers from Smethwick Police station and talks by guest speakers from local radio stations.
Having completed the course which includes radio training and explores possibilities of career routes into radio, students are encouraged to become volunteers at the Project and train new students.
During February 2000, the project hired a BBC producer to work with existing groups on a video about the dangers of drug misuse and the affect it has on so many people. | | Objectives | | The objective of the project was to give young people, in an area where there wasn't much to do, an activity that they were interested in which would keep them away from anti-social behaviour and crime. By making a video about drugs, it is hoped that the young people will think about the effects drugs misuse has on a wide range of people other than the person misusing drugs. | | Staff Profile | | Volunteers run the courses, many of whom have already attended the course. | | Linked Organisations | | Smethwick Police, Local Radio Stations, Connexions, YOT, Nacro, Youth Groups. |
