| | Description | | Connexions Staffordshire includes the city of Stoke-on-Trent which means that the service operates in partnership with two DATs and two local authorities. All Connexion PA's have had drug awareness training and can offer counselling to young people, further training is also offered by the DAT's. They have a PA based with ADSIS (Alcohol and Drug services in Staffordshire) and one with Druglink in Stoke-on-Trent. These substance misuse PA's can provide the more intensive support 1:1 support required by young people with substance misuse problems. A realistic approach has been adopted as it is realised that although substance misuse may be the primary issue, it is a symptom of something else. A holistic approach is used looking at all areas of the young persons life - learning, educational needs, family life and all health issues. The service has worked with Staffordshire DAT to develop Tier 1 screening and drug referral protocols to be used by all agencies. Their website has a Health section which covers drug and alcohol issues, as well as areas for parents and carers. Local needs and priorities are agreed through each of the Local Management Committees made up of representatives from Connexions and partner agencies, one for Stoke and one for Staffordshire, each of which consult with young people and take their views into account. | | Staff Profile | | PA's based at 15 offices across the area including 2 substance misuse workers | | Linked Organisations | | Has links with ADSIS, Druglink in Staffs, PCT and the local CAMHS service. They have a variety of partner organisations including the LEA's, YOT's from each authority, Staffordshire Youth Service, Relate, Stoke-on-Trent City Council, Staffordshire County Council and Jobcentre Plus. |
