| Description |
The base for the Depot is a barge on the river in Stratford. Fully kitted out with computers, a chill out zone, seating area and offices they are open two evenings a week for young people to drop in for informal advice, support and advocacy or just to chill out.
Activities such as art or music evenings are also arranged around the needs of the young people. Some of the young people have housing issues and the Salvation Army provides free food which is cooked in the kitchen on board and available for any young person that needs a meal. A purpose built converted minibus complete with TV and computers have enabled outreach work to take place in the more rural areas which have been identified either by the Police or local councillors as being at risk areas.
Although The Depot has links with statutory services, it tries to remain independent finding that young people prefer the environment of the Depot to other more formalized settings, they see the Depot as a place where they have ownership and direction over the activities and what they want to do. |
