Description
Drug Concern provides parents and carers with a confidential Helpline providing information, advice and support. Assistance is also given in accessing help from appropriate referral agencies including referring young people to treatment agencies.
Befrienders will offer individuals 1:1 support over the telephone for how ever long is needed. Counselling can also be arranged.
The organisation runs local support groups, parenting programmes and is available to give Drugs awareness talk to community groups.
Mission Statement
Drug Concern aims to;
Help parents and carers reduce the risk of their children/parents becoming involved problematically in alcohol, solvent and other legal or illegal drug use
Enable parents, carers and young people to make informed decisions concerning drugs use and misuse
Promote healthy attitudes regarding the use of legal or illegal substances which cause family and community problems
Support parents and carers who are having to cope with problems related to their children's or partner's drug use
Empower parents and carers in supporting each other within their own communities.
Objectives
Drug Concern has a number of objectives;
To provide accurate, balanced information on drug use, the effects, legal status, and signs and symptom of use
To advise parents and carers of appropriate ways to respond to problems related to their children's use of drugs
To offer support to those having to cope with another's drug use and to make referrals where appropriate
To provide training for those who wish to find out more about drugs or want to become involved as a Drug Concern volunteer
To make our service as accessible as possible to anyone who requires it, regardless of race, religion, gender, socio-economic status or disability.
