Method of Access: Third party referral is encouraged through the police, YOT, Social Services, Youth and Community, Schools, Education and Welfare etc. Most of the young people who attend have self-referred.
| | Description | The project organises diversionary sporting activities which include trampolining, football and dance and drama. Activities take place after school and during school holidays. Day trips always have a sports focus and have included rock climbing, go-karting, waterskiing and tobogganing at the local Snowdome in Tamworth.
Trained Youth Workers will offer one-to-one with young people if required. They will also deliver sessions in schools on alcohol and smoking.
Chasetown Ward was targeted as being in need of such a project and their is open access to all those living within the area. Girls only groups and boys only groups are run for some sports.
The organisers have a preventative approach towards substance misuse with a focus on promotion of healthy lifestyles and well being. | | Objectives | | • National aims of Positive Futures – “By engaging marginalised young people in sport and other activities, Positive Futures aims to build relationships between responsible adults and young people based on mutual trust and respect, in order to create new opportunities for alternative lifestyles. • The programme aims to use sport as a catalyst to encourage participants to make decisions for themselves, and to take self-determined steps towards a positive future.
