Will also arrange activity and adventure days at the weekend. Regular activities include football, rock climbing, trampolining, table tennis and badminton. Holiday programmes can include uni-hockey, paintballing and adventure days. Have also undertaken projects in street dance and graffiti art. The project also works on a 1:1 basis or with small groups during the day, trying to engage and become part of the young person’s week; they will go fishing or undertake activities that interest each young person. The focus is on personal development for young people building up their social skills and self esteem. |
| Objectives |
• National aims of Positive Futures – “By engaging marginalised young people in sport and other activities, Positive Futures aims to build relationships between responsible adults and young people based on mutual trust and respect, in order to create new opportunities for alternative lifestyles.
• The programme aims to use sport as a catalyst to encourage participants to make decisions for themselves, and to take self-determined steps towards a positive future. Steering young people towards educational and employment opportunities is at the heart of the programme’s agenda.” |
| Staff Profile |
| Manager + 6 regular staff + a team of casual staff. It is hoped to create 4 part-time posts in the near future. It is felt that part time workers will be able to better build relationships with the young people than casual workers. |
| Linked Organisations |
| Will refer young people on to the Bradby Club and Connexions. Links have been made with other Positive Futures organisations in Coventry and Solihull; they have a team in the U18 football league in Solihull. Rugby Positive Futures is a partnership between Rugby Borough Council, the Warwickshire Drug Action Team, the Warwickshire Youth Offending Team and Newbold Rugby Football Club. |
