| Description |
Sports activities are run alongside drugs awareness sessions which young people have to attend in order to take part in sporting activities.
Activities are varied with Break-dance courses and footballing courses both being run. Junior Sports Leadership Awards and Community Sports Leadership Awards will also be run in the near future.
The Sports Leadership Awards will have a maximum of 15 people on each course. Activities are not gender specific although girls have said they would rather attend girl only sessions, so this is being arranged. There are more lads than girls in the local area so this may be a way of attracting more girls into the scheme.
A ‘Girls only’ mobile team challenge' is being planned - a low ropes course designed to work on team building and citizenship skills |
| Mission Statement |
| Follows aims and objectives of Positive Futures. To make sure that these activities are there to help each young person get somewhere in life, to develop and get into employment. For the activities to be part of lifelong learning and not just something that is undertaken for a couple of hours a week. |
| Objectives |
• National aims of Positive Futures – “By engaging marginalised young people in sport and other activities, Positive Futures aims to build relationships between responsible adults and young people based on mutual trust and respect, in order to create new opportunities for alternative lifestyles.
• The programme aims to use sport as a catalyst to encourage participants to make decisions for themselves, and to take self-determined steps towards a positive future. Steering young people towards educational and employment opportunities is at the heart of the programme’s agenda.” |
