| Description |
Before starting any new piece of work, the drugs worker will always assess the needs of the community to see which approach will work best in each locality.
As well as working with young people, drug awareness, advice and information sessions are also run at parent groups and tenant organisations meetings.
The area is a rural one so a youth bus is used for outreach work in areas not served by traditional youth clubs or meeting places for young people.
The project organises Peer mentor training – where young people are trained in Tier 1 drug awareness and advice and they then deliver sessions to their peers.
The local Community Beat Officer will often attend drug awareness and information sessions to explain the view of the law. He is also a link to local business and shops within the community of Oswestry.
The project runs a youth club for 40 excluded/partially excluded/vulnerable young people. It is hoped to attract further funding so that a programme of diversionary activities can be organised for these young people.
If appropriate, young people are referred on to the local substnace misuse team for focusssed counselling and treatment. |

| There are two Connexions Substance misuse PA's in the area attached to the Young Persons Substance Misuse Team which the project has very close links with. Close links have been forged with the local Police Officer and local business and shops and the 3 other CAD workers in Shropshire. |
