Description
This project offers training for education professionals, targeted education and 1:1 support as well as running a Peer Education project. The project manager heads up the Schools Team working with Secondary Schools and Sixth forms. They work towards getting teachers trained up and confident to deliver their own drug education programmes and will support them in then PHSE delivery. If required they will attend classroom sessions and sometimes deliver programmes themselves.

A Vulnerable Young People's worker gives 1:1 support in schools to those excluded or at risk of exclusion. Sessions are also offered in Social Service residential settings. Work is also undertaken with groups of young people for example young people on the E2E project, and with young people working with Learning Mentors.

The team also organise drop in sessions and displays in schools in the area. Work in the past has included 'Sorted' training regarding 1:1 sessions with young people for Connexions.

The Peer Education Programme is a 12 week training programme which takes place in schools (2 hours each session). Focussing on drug awareness, attitudes and learning how to work with young people of similar ages to themselves, students are trained to deliver drug education. After completing the course the students run their own drug awareness sessions as 'Peer Educators'. The project has been running successfully for 3 years at Aldersley School. In 2004 Students worked on a drama which they took into schools and the Year 11s trained the Year 8s. At Northicote School, the project has been up and running for a year, they work with the Twilight Project at Wolves FC - the workers at Twilight were all trained by peer educators.
Staff Profile
The Schools team consists of the Schools Worker, a line manager, a vulnerable young people worker and a Primary School worker. The Peer Education Project has a Co-ordinator and co-worker - both posts are 'substantial' part-time posts. There are also 2 sessional staff working on the project.
Linked Organisations
Will refer any young person requiring more ongoing support to Subs at Base 25. Subs will also refer people to the Triangle Project. Also has close links with schools and colleges including independent schools. Works very closely with the Schools drugs advisor for the area.
