Description
This scheme, affiliated to Wolves FC, offers young men 5-a-side football leagues and football coaching alongside sessions and workshops on life-skills designed to improve self confidence and esteem.

Life-skill workshops include sessions on drug awareness, sexual health, communication skills, parenthood and relationships – anything that affects the lives of the young people on the scheme. Counselling on a 1:1 basis is also available.

The programme has been designed for young men in deprived areas of Wolverhampton with high levels of bullying, street crime, drug abuse and teenage pregnancy. They do not have to be footballers to get a place on the scheme, they are graded according to skill level and then placed in a team of mixed ability – a move designed to stop anyone getting bored and to stop any team from constantly losing or winning. Players are encouraged to take coaching qualifications and opportunities are then available for them to start schemes in their own areas for which they will be paid. The hope is that many more will be encouraged into careers in Health and Fitness.

Many of the players in the Midnight league help out with the Twilight and Dusk leagues.
There are now three leagues running, the timing of each has been designed to keep the men off the streets at a time when they may be at a lose end; the Midnight League runs from 10pm – 12 am, the Twilight League from 7pm to 9pm.

Wolves FC supply football kits and there are opportunities to meet the players, take part in tours of the ground and even play at Molineux. On match days the scheme office becomes a health drop in centre with a male nurse on duty offering advice, blood pressure checks and free condoms. Regular attendance on the scheme is rewarded with free match tickets and helps towards getting your team through to further rounds of the league competition whose final is held at Molineux.
